I booked a return ticket last week for May, and have just booked a return to somewhere else for next week, both using the same payment card. I have opted to pick both of them up at the Fast Ticket machines at Newcastle. Will having two lots of tickets to pick up with the same card cause any problems?

If not how will it work, ie will the machine print off both lots, ask which one I want, print the most recent ones etc? Will I need the ticket reference? I'm sure there won't be any problems really, just don't really know much about the machines is all.

I've used them twice and once it wouldn't work!

When I did this, for the first booking (when there were 2 to collect on my card) I was asked for a booking reference. But when collecting the second lot (and it was then the only booking linked to the card left) I was not asked for a reference and they printed automatically.

i.e. I had to insert and remove the card, enter the reference, get the tickets, then repeat the whole thing again (but without having to enter the other reference).

Depends on the TVM being used. I recently purchased two fares via SWT's website (to obtain the 2.62% cashback via topcashback.co.uk) for collection from a FGW TVM at Bristol Temple Meads.

I had to insert and remove my debit card for both sets of tickets and enter both booking references. This despite the transactions being in one 'basket' on the SWT website - the two sets of tickets each had a separate booking reference. My bank statement however only showed one transaction.

This is annoying and seems to be a feature of Trainline-powered sites whereby each journey has its own reference number even if purchased together in the same transaction.

On the other hand with East Coast, at least, you can book multiple journeys in the same transaction but only get one reference number and the TVM will print the whole lot out in one go which I naturally find much more convenient.

This has been my experience too, when I've collected multiple bookings.

For the first set of tickets it will ask you for a booking reference. For the second set it may also ask you for a booking reference, or it might just print automatically. There doesn't seem to be a set method for entering a booking reference when you only have one purchase allocated to that card.

I believe it depends on the make of machine.

Normally use the same exact machine at York and it sometimes asks for a booking confirmation, sometimes it doesn't. Then again sometimes it tells me it cannot read my card details and other times it works first time.

Thanks the replies everyone. I did wonder why both times I was told I would need a ticket reference only to not be asked for it, I guess this explains why!
