Hi all,

I'm wanting to travel to Harlow Town from Farnham on the 14th January. I've been having a look at train times, and National Rail is quoting me FNH - WOK (23min), WOK - WAT (1hr 04), WAT - LST (58min) and LST - HWN (30min).

I know there's engineering works that day, but an hour between Woking and Waterloo sounds a bit excessive! An hour for travel between Waterloo and Liverpool Street is also a bit on the long side. Also, what about through trains through Waterloo from Farnham? In short, is there any way to make the journey shorter? Bear in mind I will be buying my WAT - HWN ticket at Waterloo.

Any help is appreciated.

Well an hour is what they are timetabled to do. Noone else is going to quote you faster times

They are being diverted by a longer route because of engineering work - local trains are replaced by buses. No through Farnham trains - they only run to/from Woking

The cross London journey can normally be achieved in less than the quoted time, yes. Assuming you have an open ticket then you can get the first train on, even if it's before the one in your itinerary

I was thinking of routes avoiding those areas. Farnham - Ash Vale - North Camp - Redhill - Victoria - Tottenham Hale - Harlow Town seems to be about 10 minutes faster, but a far more convoluted route!

The WAT-LST can be done in 20 minutes easily. Waterloo & City to Bank, Central to Liverpool Street.

Alternatively, if your train calls at Vauxhall, take the Victoria Line from Vauxhall to Tottenham Hale (should take about 35 minutes at most). Vauxhall is in Zone 1 and 2, so the fare would be the same as Waterloo.
