Farnham [FNH] to Ramsgate [RAM] 19th August

2 Adults (one with Gold Card and one with YP Railcard) are going from FNH to RAM on the 19th August, aiming to arrive in Ramsgate mid-afternoon.

Are the any splits that would make this journey cheaper?

A single is £26.60 and a same-day return is £26.65, as I can assume you will be travelling after 10am if using a Gold Card (and you will get there by mid-afternoon if you leave after 10am).

Splitting is highly unlikely to work for such a journey, for travel wholly within the Network Area, under normal circumstances (unless you take advantage of ludicrous RG anomalies and/or want to go via a convoluted route) but you could try it on this occasion due to SET's 20% off discount, which doesn't apply from Farnham.

I suppose if you really wanted to save money you could get a ticket to Surbuton (£5-80 assuming you want a single) then use Oyster PAYG to Bromley South (£1.30 avoiding London or £1.70 via London avoiding LU) and then a 20% discounted ticket from Bromley South to Ramsgate (£13.25) - but is the huge extra journey time compared to using fast trains worth it?

Thanks Yorkie. I was hoping there would be a clever little split there to make it slightly cheaper - but taking a hugely convoluted route or long journey times aren't really worth the little reduction.

Sorry to dig this up again, but for the people who understand the Routeing Guide, what are the permitted routes on an FNH - RAM ticket?

Alternatively, Farnborough North - Wokingham - Reading - Great Western Mainline - Paddington
