Hello all,

Last week me and a friend went to Farnborough Trade Day on the Tuesday (15th), first time I've been to Farnborough, and we took shots from the Golf Course nearby, and a good location it was too. Here is the goodies we saw:

First of all, a set of photos of Airbus A380 F-WWOW on a demo run

Next up was F-WZNW in Qatar launch livery. The Qatar logos are also on the Rolls Royce Trent XWB engine casings. This was out on a demonstration for quite a while to show of the A350-900

From Civil to Military, the next Airbus up was the A400M Grizzly II demonstrating it's tricks.

From top to bottom is (I believe) Aermacchi M-346, Blackshape Prime and Aermacchi M-345. First time I've seen these

Aermacchi M-346 (I believe) does a solo display. First time seeing these in the sky, they are quite impressive actually

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) AgustaWestland T129 was up after the Red Devils, the only attack chopper on show

Trescal Starduster SA300 F-PFJP shows off it's aerobatic capabilities

Now the monster F/A-18 Super Hornet comes out for a demonstration, and what a display it was!

The D-Day markings Eurofighter Typhoon was next performing a nice and loud display

US Navy's Boeing P-8A Posedion did a short demo display. This is about the only reasonable shot I got of it, the others either had a lampost in the way or was out the frame. How I struggled photting something at 5 miles an hour (compared to the jets anyway!) I don't know, might have been adjusted to fast moving planes still perhaps!

And to round the day off was Boeing's 787-900 Dreamliner N789EX on a very short demonstration, as it wasn't out for long. I did however read Boeing were not happy with the first routine on Monday which is probably why.

Hope you enjoyed them :)

James.

Nice pics! It's amazing what the A380 is capable of. Leaves me slack-jawed every time.
The 787-9 looks incredible. Those wings are an engineering masterpiece.

I know, they were certainly throwing the 380 about! I was lucky to see the 787-900 being thrown around on Monday via the live stream, did a very steep climb, steep banks and a touch and go, but Boeing didn't like it so on Tuesday it did a circuit or two and that was it. Airbus on the other hand didn't seem to complain with the 380, but in the end I heard Airbus sold more than Boeing....

Sorry for the big typo on the A400, it's an Atlas of course not a Grizzly

The A350 seems to be just as manoeuvrable - it's been doing 70deg+ banking in testing (and all the Airbus displays are done with all the Normal Fly By Wire limits enabled)

I went to Farnborough on a trade day when the A330 was new; at one point they put it in the lowest airspeed possible, aimed it into a headwind and practically hovered it for about 30 seconds - it was literally only crawling along. Certainly not what you would have expected to see and it got everyone's attention - the whole crowd stood still watching it in silence.

Very nervy doing that only a couple of hundred feet up - if I recall correctly, they had lost their other prototype A330 while carrying out the exact same maneouvre only a few weeks previously.

The A330 lost in Testing was unbalanced (deliberately using water ballast) and testing engine out takeoffs with hydraulic systems deactivated in poor weather (basically a worst case scenario) when it stalled. Nothing to do with Airshow practices. As a result changes were put in place to prevent it happening again!

The way I heard it was that it was doing slow speed testing - nobody mentioned it had also been deliberately unbalanced as well, so thank you for that.

It also had one engine shut down (simulating a V1 engine failure) and a Hydraulic system disabled (which reduced the number of control surfaces in use)

I also went to the trade day on the 15th. Getting quite bored of the 380 display now. I must have seen it about 10 times!!
I didn't stop for the 787 display but I do think it's a fabulous looking aircraft

But this sort of thing is what I love to see!!
