Farnborough to Ford

I want to travel from Farnborough to Ford on a Sunday.

The Routeing Guide offers the following 2 routes.

CS-SC
CW-BB-WX

CS-SC is for travel Farnborough - Dorking - Horsham - Ford

CW-BB-WX offers a number of permutations but is broadly Farnborough - Eastleigh - Fareham - Havant- Ford

Farnborough-Dorking-Horsham-Ford appears to be the shortest route too (60.25)
Farnborough-Guildford-Havant-Ford is 64.25
and Farnborough-Eastleigh-Fareham-Havant is (78.75)

However, trains do not run between Dorking and Horsham on a Sunday and hence the only valid route on a Sunday would appear to be the rather circuitous one via Fareham. Can you argue that the route via Guildford and Havant is valid on a Sunday as the shortest route on which a train service runs on that day, or am I forced to use the Eastleigh route?

Without being given a specific date it's hard to work out.

This weekend (12/12/09) Via Guildford is a No, No as there's engineering in the Buriton & Durrants area, so the best route is via Fareham, it's also the quickest at 2h28.

TBH it's far quicker & easier to drive if you can, because travelling on a Sunday is a nightmare.

Planning to travel on 20th December when I don't think there are any relevant engineering works.

NRE gives me an itinerary change at Woking, Havant and Barnham; while I think it's valid anyway because of the shortest route rule, if you take a print-off of this with you they can hardly turn around and tell you the official passenger enquiry website is wrong!

I concur the routing on 20/12/09 is via Woking, Havant & Barnham (Changes in that order).

I agree it's the most sensible route. Out of interest is anyone aware of anything in the Routeing Guide to cover this situation or is it more a case of its a reasonable route to take on days where the official shortest route is unavailable?

NRES at its best again! Seen too many examples of where it works out a quick journey that in many cases is not a valid routing. Just make sure you have that print-out, and for the date you're travelling.

To be honest I would travel via Clapham junction splitting tickets there. Southern have good deals on off peak tickets atm if you book them on line or you could get a daysave ticket. Its likely to be more robust than via Guildford and Havant on a Sunday.

As someone else said I'm afraid this journey takes around an hour by car or its around 2hr 30 plus by train. if youve got a car use it. Apart form the Gaugemaster shop and an old peoples home theres nothing at Ford station. if your visiting at the Prison its a good mile walk from the station along unlit roads.
