Farnborough - Staines Routeing Options

Farnborough and Staines are both routeing points.

The routeing options according to the Routeing Guide are WW or CS+WX

WW is straight forward Farnborough – Weybridge – Staines

But CS+WX appears to offer two alternatives; Farnborough North – Wokingham – Staines is the first but Farnborough North – Guildford – Clapham Junction – Staines appears to follow all the rules. Any advise on whether this is valid would be appreciated?

It would appear to be, but only via Redhill. So that's Farnborough North - Guildford - Redhill - Clapham Junction - Staines. That would take hours. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will come up with a reason why not, or else that seems to offer cracking value for some other fares if BOJ is allowed.

• CS: Farnborough North or Blackwater - Wokingham - Reading - Basingstoke then - WX: Basingstoke - Farnborough Main - Woking - Clapham Jn - Richmond - Staines, or
• CS: Farnborough - Guildford then - WX: Guildford - Woking - Clapham Jn - Hounslow - Staines, or

I've looked again at those maps and I can't see Chertsey on WX. I do now see how the original suggestion is valid though because

CS: Farnborough North - Guildford then - WX: Guildford - Woking - Clapham Jn - Hounslow/Richmond - Staines.

Also, I'm assuming you mean Farnborough North for all routes starting on CS?

Sorry, my copy & paste error. I have edited my post, but yours above will preserve my mistakes for posterity!

When I use "Farnborough", I mean any member of Farnborough Group, that is Blackwater, Farnborough Main or Farnborough North. That's the convention the National Routeing Guide uses on its maps. I accept that in many cases the permitted route involves a passenger starting from Farnborough Main walking to Farnborough North or vice-versa.

I list individual stations where it makes a difference. The route via Basingstoke can only be started from Blackwater or Farnborough North to avoid doubling back. It's a perverse route, but a permitted one.

Assuming one has a correct ticket, is there anything to stop you starting short at Farnbourough Main?

Also are you allowed to break your journey at an intermidiate station on one routeing and resume it on another?

e.g. Could I use CS+WX to travel Farnborough North - Guildford - Woking and then switch to WW and continue via Chertsey to Staines?

In reality you'd just walk to Frimley, 10 mins from Farnborough N. £2 cheaper.
