Farnborough area

I'm moving to this area soon I was wondering whether tickets from Farnborough/Camberley/Ash Vale are inter-available? Camberley is closest railway station but the service is a bit rubbish. So In general I might travel out from Farnborough but back to Camberley, Brookwood or Ash Vale depending on circumstance. Would that be within the rules?

I tried with London Waterloo to Camberley, and it presented various options (at different prices - these ones are for weekly tickets):

1) London - Camberley (Travel is allowed by any route option shown by the Journey Planner where the journey can be made using only one ticket.) £77.10

2) London - Camberley (Travel also available via Wokingham.) £81.20

3) London - Camberley (Travel also available via Farnborough Main.) £81.30

4) London - Camberley (Travel also available via Sandhurst.) £99.30

So (although I'm not familiar with the services or exact routes in this area; and I haven't looked to see what tickets are available for any other destinations), on this basis it looks as though the third option here might be suitable for you?

Not my forte, but typically speaking a ticket valid to Camberley, Ash Vale or Brookwood will be off-route at Fanrborough Main, but a ticket to Farnborough will be valid at Ash Vale. Asuming you're travelling from London Waterloo, Brookwood would be okay by default on a Farnborough ticket, because to get to either Farnborough or Ash Vale, you have to pass through there (with the exception of a few rush hour trains to Aldershot via Ascot).

Welcome to the joys of the intricate rail network around Farnborough – I have 5 stations within 1.5 miles of my house, on 4 different lines!

Despite living here I’m not an expert but my understanding, is that from Camberley you can buy a ticket to London routed via Ascot or Ash Vale. The route Ascot is cheaper but can only be used that way. The route Ash Vale is obviously valid via Ash Vale and Brookwood, but not Farnborough, I’m not sure whether you can also travel via Ascot on the basis that it is more expensive but I don’t think so?

Farnborough tickets are valid via the main line, via Brookwood and also via Redhill or Reading, although the later costs more.

So if you wanted to travel to London from Camberley and back to Farnborough, via Ash Vale, you would need a Brookwood to Farnborough single. Going via Ascot, I imagine you would need an excess of some sort to come back to Farnborough.

Hope that’s some help and that someone with more ticketing knowledge than myself may be able to fill in the gaps

Not your forte as you say.

This is exactly why they sell the AAA (also available at) season tickets, to overcome that problem, as explained in the previous post to yours, on the 11th.

You've answered the problem for ordinary tickets, but for seasons the AAA tickets get over the sort of problems you mention.

Wasn’t aware of these tickets, which is useful, interesting and confusing in equal measure!

Unless I’m missing something why would anyone ever get a route AAA CAMBERLEY ticket, which costs more than a Frimley ticket and the same as a Aldershot ticket, but with less route validity?

Also as there is a route AAA FRIMLEY NOT READING available, does it mean that the other route AAA Frimley ticket is valid for travel via Reading, and indeed all the other route AAA tickets, which don’t mention Reading?
