The current fares from Oakham to Leicester are
  • Off-Peak Day Single £13.10
  • Off-Peak Day Return £13.20
  • Anytime Day Single £15.70
  • Anytime Day Return £15.80
Looking in June the fares are changing to
  • Off-Peak Day Single £13.05 (-5p)
  • Off-Peak Day Return £13.25 (+5p)
  • Anytime Day Single £15.65 (-5p)
  • Anytime Day Return £15.85 (+5p)

Similarly for Oakham to Peterborough
  • Off-Peak Day Single £13.10 changing to £13.05
  • Off-Peak Day Return £13.20 changing to £13.25
  • Anytime Day Single £18.40 not changing
  • Anytime Day Return £19.10 not changing

Could this be the first step in making singles half the price of returns?

Unlikely.

It’s probably the case that more people buy returns than singles, so the fares are being adjusted accordingly.

Changing the price differential between a singles and returns at a rate of 10p per year: if it were the intention to make singles half the price of a return then, at that rate, it's going to take decades!

Short answer: No.

Long answer: If so, at that rate it will take a further 86 fares changes (if this occurred at the three fares setting rounds per year, it would take over 28 years)
