We are a party of 8, travelling from London to Newcastle on the 9th May, however one person will be joining enroute at Peterborough and they have a YP railcard. They want to leave London at 4-5 pm ish.

The return will be on Sunday 11th May, leaving newcastle at noon, with one person having YP rail card, is there any way to get this cheaper than £30 per person?

Oh, I thought you said you had already found it for £30 per person and you were looking for a way to get it even cheaper!

In which case I think you are going to struggle.

I can't find anything like £30 return I'm afraid. It might just be possible if you had booked very early.

You are best booking on the East coast website, they give a 25% discount on groups booking EastCoast advance fares. http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/special-offers/our-offers/travel-savings/big-savings-for-small-groups/

Another way to save a few pounds could be to get use the Grand Central service to/from Sunderland, then buy a single to/from Newcastle.

The 1650 departure to Sunderland on Grand Central is currently £52.50 on it's own, before you even factor in the return journey and then the Newcastle-Sunderland (or vice versa) leg of the journey.

£30 a head just isnt doable.

Indeed. I think the cheapest EC advances between Newcastle and London are £15 each way. And to get those, you'll need to book well ahead and travel leaving London on the 22:00 - not around 16:00-17:00.
