Hi All,

Would anyone be able to help me get the cheapest fare possible for 5 adults travelling from Glasgow to Liverpool on the 22nd June arriving around 2pm coming back on the 24th June leaving around 2pm. We have no railcards. I have managed to get tickets for £33.10 each by using Virgin Group-save between Glasgow and Preston then getting anytime returns Preston -Liverpool but would like to get a little more off if possible,

thanks in advance

Just to clarify the above point (in case the OP is not familiar with the service): Megabus also run a sub-brand, Megatrain, which sells tickets very cheaply, at a later date than advances normally go on offer, on some services, including Warrington-Glasgow ie, 46100ROYALSCOT is not suggesting that you get a bus!

It can be as cheap as £11 for 5 seats, however, I should also point out that the two services usually offered are the 09:14 or 21:15 from Warrington, so this might not work for you.

hey, thanks for the replies, I use megatrain/bus quite often so will hang about and see what they can offer although im pretty certain they dont offer any tickets for friday, saturday or sunday so would still need to find the cheapest way possible to get home. If i am able to get megatrain tickets for travelling down then this would at least help to bring the overall cost down for the entire trip.

I didn't know Virgin have started participating in GroupSave! They are not listed in the list of operators on the GroupSave page of the National Rail website. Do you have your tickets yet and can you confirm the ticket type and routeing?

The Virgin Trains version is called Group-e and is not generous. It's for 3-8 people. "The first two passengers pay the Advance fare without discount, the third to eighth passengers get a discount of 10% on the Advance fares. No additional discounts, Railcards or other offers apply. The 10% discount only applies to our adult fares."
