Fare for NUN-MAN-LIV-NUN ?

Correction: Title should have read "Fare for NUN-MAN-LIV-NUN ?"

I want a flexible ticket to travel:

Day 1: NUN-MAN (before 9am)
Day 2: MAN-LIV
Day 3: LIV-NUN (evening peak)

Nuneaton to Liverpool via Manchester is a permitted route.
There are no time restrictions on a £32.50 Off-peak Return NUN-LIV (but there are peak-time restrictions on the £32.50 Off-Peak Return NUN-MAN).

What is the cheapest ticket for the above journey?

Can I just buy a NUN-LIV Off-Peak Return and travel on it from Manchester to Liverpool on day 2 if I travel before noon? Or should I buy a separate single ticket to cover the MAN-LIV leg?

(P.S. Rhetorical question: I'm just a normal train user - why do I seem to need a degree in contract law to work out what train ticket to buy?)

Err, the Off Peak Return outward portion is only valid on the day of purchase.

What you'd need to do is as follows.
Day 1: Anytime Single (as you are travelling before 9am) @ £24.50 (NUN-MAN)
Day 2/3: Off Peak Return @ £12.00 (MAN-LIV)

It is valid as the OP describes but only in the circumstance that you cannot complete the journey as detailed in NCoC.

is the last train to Manchester after the last Liverpool? if not then I doubt it can be justified at all.

I thought I'd read that under the new fare rules, you could break the outbound portion of the ticket and have until noon the day after the date of validity to complete the journey. However, the Fares Manuals on the National Rail site are from May so out of date, so I can't find the rules.

So I can buy an Off-Peak Return NUN-LIV, and route NUN-MAN/MCV-LIV on the outbound, but fail to show up for MCV-LIV. Then buy a single for the MAN-LIV on day 2. Is that correct?

I need to check the wording to be sure but, while you can break your journey, I believe you can only continue the next day if you can't complete it due to missing the last train. but, even if so, what does that mean? ie can you choose to resume after the last train? can of worms I think
