This was the incident happened. Pls help me to response.

I normally use to travel from brighton to london areas and I sometimes purchase tickets beforehand using trainline app and sometimes, I also followed tap-in and tap-out systems. On that day, because of my mis-understanding of the railway tapping systems, it resulted in the seriousness of this action.

This is my first time, I am travelling within the brighton areas, locally in train. I went to the shoreham by sea station around 4 PM where I tapped my google wallet at the railway station barrier gates too many times and the gates opened. I boarded the train by 4.10 PM and stepped out at the hove station. When I was tapping out at the exit railway barrier gate using my google wallet, the Revenue protection officer informed me this tapping won’t works in brighton and she asked me to purchase the ticket at the ticket counter. Only then, I genuinely realized that no tapping system will not work in brighton.

When I was to purchase my tickets, my transcation got declined. But I do have enough money to purchase the ticket. I am not aware of why my transactions didn’t went through. They asked me whether I carried any cash in hand, unfortunately, I didn’t carry cash and physical cards with me on that day.

Then the Revenue Protection inspector asked for my personal details and journeys, overwhelmed by fear and panic, I mistakenly told I started my journey at Portslade station and then, I recognize and corrected it as Shoreham by sea staion. Again I do apologise for this action.

If, as you say, Shoreham by Sea is not part of a tap-in/tap-out area, there are presumably no readers at the gates, so how did the barriers open?

It is part of The Key area, so there are readers. The OP was trying to tap using their contactless bank card though.
