That could be any of a few thousand people an hour at BHM, especially if the barrier attendant was busy playing games on their mobile phone as they usually are.

As a rule and for the company i work for if i have to deal with a fare dodger ill let them know that a penalty fare system is in operation. Then inform them that rpis are out&about on that particular route that day! (whether true or not!) You do find people tend to disappear quick enough after that.
Anyone who isnt bothered i may report but will not hold up the train to do so or order them to leave at the next station. Reasons being that A) the passenger could just well refuse to leave. B) there is absolutely no backing from the company i work for to do this. C) BTP are never anywhere to be seen or 'in the area' when you attempt to contact.

Apparently belling your driver on a 3-car 158, and asking him to flick the Door Control mcb switch for the front coach in order to hijack & abduct faredodgers who've legged it up the train away from you is very, very, naughty nowadays.

I have seen conuctors open door at one end, watch all the kids (id like to say this is always meadowhall!!) Run to other end of the train, then lock the door and close the doors from the other end of the train. The look is priceless Obviously all the kids call the conductor a ****, but its like.. really?

In the same situation I've seen TPE crews using much harder tactics than Northern. A favourite has to be at Filey, group of about 6 kids who used all kinds of delaying tactics, presumably to just get to the stop. Guard then goes to start door duties from the front door of the rear coach, kids get off from the rear most door cheering and high fiving each other. Little did they know the guard would be waiting in the narrow part of the platform where the footbridge is.

hahaha. Was worth the wait, and theres enough padding in the timetable up there to sort out the princess and the pea so it was hardly a problem.
