My wife and I are going from Virginia Water to London to see a theatre production which starts at 7.30 next friday.

We have 2 options, and were thinking about buying a "2 together" card.
Cheap day travel card return zone 1-6 which when I had my network card was £10.75 ish, but that was 5 months ago, so I have lost touch. We would like to have a meal before hand so we were thinking of leaving at 4 ish. We may wish to stay out but are mindful of the last train home and Uber is quite expensive.

Our next option and we are grateful that night tube on the Piccadilly line will be starting in Dec would be to drive to Hatton cross which is not at all far, or even Hounslow west. We have oyster / contactless, however I know railcards can be added on, can you add 2 together rail card onto oyster?
Am I right in thinking that if you travel into town "against the flow" ie heading into central while commuters are heading home, you get charged the off peak fare? It would be one straight line albeit slow (wish they would get quicker trains like Jubilee / Victoria Lines) to Piccadilly circus. After the show we were thinking about visiting Edgware road ( the top end of marble arch side) then heading back home about 12.15 AM. So in all our journeys would be Zone 6/5 to Zone 1, zone 1 to zone 1, and zone 1 back to zone 5/6 with possible rail card .

Any cheap tickets on SWT for this or any tips with oyster?

Many thanks

No, you can't add the Two together railcard to Oyster card(s). Yes, finishing in zone 1 in the afternoon peak is charged off-peak. Therefore your costs from zone 5 or 6 would be £3.10+£2.40+£3.10 = £8.60.
