Is that allowed under data protection though? The met police facial recognition only looks for outstanding warrants

Data protection? Never stopped the DVLA selling vehicle registered-keepers’ names and addresses to cowboy carpark companies.

If he had strayed into one of those territories, then he could (and probably would) have been arrested by the SBA police and deported to the UK.

Now, I wonder if he left Cyprus by plane, or if he crossed into North Cyprus. The TRNC (as it's known by residents of North Cyprus) doesn't have an extradition treaty with the UK, although they have ridiculously strict immigration requirements.
If he [Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon] should ‘accidentally’ stray into a Cyprus UK airbase then he could quickly find himself back in the UK. Similar things happened back during the Troubles in Northern Ireland when IRA gunmen retreated into the Republic, only to suddenly reappear back in Northern Ireland with a little assistance from the SAS (allegedly).

So proud of Bristol and other cities today (liverpool, sheffield, Newcastle, multiple parts of London etc). Even if the list of places was misinformation, all it has managed to prove is that ordinary people will not put up with racist thuggery.

Bristol, where it was around the corner form where I used to live, really has made me happy. Looked like basically a party atmosphere from the videos I've seen. I was talking to immigrant friends earlier who were scared to go put - I really hope they can at least see this and know that they aren't alone.

My thoughts entirely.
Hope it continues to look like counter protests having fun.

Lucy Connelly, in a quote from the Northampton Chronicle website :
“I tweeted it then thought, you can’t tweet that. I do not endorse people going to burn hotels down or anything. I deleted it within an hour. It took a week for someone to reshare it.

“I one hundred per cent regret tweeting that tweet. I do not endorse that. I’m in no way, shape or form racist.”

Has anybody else here managed to accidentally post utterly repellant bigoted and racist messages on public fora, absolutely out of character and against all of your beliefs? No?

It's almost as if her vile opinions were already formed, then she panicked and deleted then because her MP husband, who clearly didn't agree with that kind of rhetoric (sarcasm), cottoned on and made her delete it.

I doubt facial recognition technology is being used too much so far when, more by luck than judgment, comparatively few people have sustained serious injury. For instance, three thugs dealt with by Plymouth magistrates (in the first instance) had their mugshots on TV screens today and, in one case, a still from a BBC live broadcast was shown too in which he stood out as being clearly identifiable, while another I also remembered seeing at the centre of action for quite some time. Local police intelligence I suggest would have led to those arrests.

Isn’t he a councillor, rather than an MP? It is still pretty disgusting.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but the rioters should be read the riot act at soon as they gather, and tear gas, plastic bullets etc should be used to aggressively disperse them.
In most cases that just gives them exactly what they want: the ability to say that the state is against them.

  • Thousands of counter-protesters have been taking to the streets, with thousands of police deployed across England
In Brighton, counter-protesters turned out in their hundreds, outnumbering a handful of anti-immigration protesters, who ended up sheltering against a building in Queens Road, surrounded by police.
A Muslim anti-fascist protester has spoken of the moment his group was embraced in support by pub-goers in Lancashire...

..Malik told the BBC it was a "massive" moment when pubgoers came up to some of the people marching and began hugging them.
Around 10 anti-immigration protesters have arrived in Southampton this evening, while hundreds of counter-protestors are marching in Grosvenor Square, chanting "racists go home" and "racism off our streets".
Sounds like the racists have been well and truly outnumbered in most places they attempted to gather.

Meanwhile in Portsmouth:
A group of anti-immigration protesters blocked a major road in Portsmouth.

Up to 200 protesters, some holding union flags and chanting “save our kids”, repeatedly blocked Mile End Road, just outside the city’s ferry port.
Portsmouth does seem to have more than it's fair share of thuggish thick people (not the majority of people by any means, but a minority that isn't as small as it should be), but let's be clear, even in towns that are targeted by the far right as hotbeds of xenophobia, racism and general idiocy, these are very low turnouts.

Here is a link to a BBC article, which shows how the alleged sites for far right protesters have been met by counter-demonstrations, which have been largely peaceful.

About 1,500 counter-protesters gathered in Bristol. The streets of the city were filled with trade unionists, anti-fascists and members of the black and Asian community.

In Brighton, eight protesters gathered outside a building they believed contained the office of a lawyer specialising in nationality and refugee law.

They were surrounded by 2,000 counter-protesters and forced to shelter against a building surrounded by a ring of police officers.

In Newcastle, about 1,000 counter-protesters, mostly Muslims, took over the pavement in front of the Beacon Centre, where an immigration service business had been on a list of expected targets.

Hopefully this is just about the end of it now. Tonight seemed like a big moment, speculation was rife but in the end we've seen very little disturbance.

The combination of a lack of momentum in terms of daily riots, plus sentences being handed down should knock the enthusiasm out of a lot of potential rioters!

Tomorrow should also see widespread rain act as a deterrent. After that Football League resumes which would also take away some potential troublemakers (although they may commit football hooliganism instead).

This perfectly sums up the situation last night. The photo showing all the anti-protestors out having a street party (there are many other posts showing bands playing) and FOUR right-wing protestors kettled in by the police looking like they wish they'd stayed home.

It seems the list was probably a hoax after all, or maybe support has started to drop off in light of news of people going to prison for a fairly long time.

I think most of the further far right protests on the list were genuine & not a hoax, but think the far right protesters were scared off by the jail sentences handed out, & the counter demonstrations.

I notice a load of “protesters” were eventually moved on yesterday after blocking a road in Portsmouth.

Surely it should be 5 years in prison for all of them like it was for the Just Stop Oil lot? Or is this kind of “two tier policing” OK?

This would cause a diplomatic incident with Cyprus and won’t happen.

He isn’t in Cyprus anyway; he’s moved to Greece.

Looking forward to seeing how he's 'welcomed' by Glasgow in September. I'm particularly thinking back to Farage's experiences of Edinburgh in 2013 which I recall went extremely well for him.

What we saw last night was the correct way to deal with people intent on violent disorder. No ANTIFA thugs (who are the flip side of the same coin), just ordinary people out in force saying enough is enough.

Ah, I see the usual impartial talking heads are out in force on the forum today. Did you condemn the violence in Leeds a couple of weeks ago, when the police simply ran away?

Meanwhile, clearly this violence is being stoked by people looking for a fight and that won’t achieve anything. But, the underlying cause is anger and frustration at their views being consistently ignored or silenced. Feeling that the current levels of immigration is too high is a legitimate concern, as is questioning the merits of multiculturalism and how well people are integrating.

The PM hasn’t helped by simply dismissing everyone that holds that position as ‘far right’; indeed, his tone deaf response has only served to feed the anger. The usual politicians and the media continue to pump out platitudes and lies without actually doing anything meaningful to address the situation. I’m not sure that a dismissive tone from a government that 80% of the electorate didn’t vote for helps either.

What’s needed on all sides is to calm down and to actually listen and try to understand each others position. We’ve completely lost the ability to debate and respectfully disagree in this country.

Apart from your last sentence that's hard to assess as I am from overseas, you are completely on the ball.

One survey I recall reading (but cannot now find) found that about half of all individuals from a particular background supported terrorism.

One can't support violence on the streets but unfortunately in the main Westminster-based English speaking Western democracies, there's been excessive emigration of people who completely lack Judaeo-Christian values.

The real danger in Western societies is the extremist Left: communists and the more radical socialists, who seek to destroy society from within.

Hopefully this 'protest' doesn't go ahead and even if it does the chances of Robinson turning up have to be slim. He often organises such events and is a no show or in the case of London just shows his face and then disappears. Almost a case of leading from the back!!

Indeed, the danger here is that it's easy to arrest a few people to look tough and decisive, but that doesn't do anything to solve the underlying issues, injustices or inequalities in our society. Subsequently, this issue will just keep reappearing and 'normal people's' genuine concerns are just being brushed over. It's perfectly possibly to support legal immigration, but not illegal immigration which many people fail to understand the nuance of, so they just take the simple approach of labelling those people 'racist' or 'far right,' rather than actually taking time to understand the perfectly rational viewpoint. The working class is increasingly marginalised by the establishment and people are starting to realise both that, and that all the political parties are the same and are delivering zero benefit to the nation. They are failing our country.

This guy sums it up, eloquently and at length, although slightly over-dramatically at the start.

This is true, but I would be stunned if more than a minuscule percentage of these people realised that illegal migration - the only bit they’re opposed to - makes up less than 10% of the total

What are you talking about? Honestly what even does this mean? If you're unable to assess then on what basis do you make these frankly bizarre claims?

You do know that the rioters on the streets are white people born in the UK? Like your not so deep in whatever weird place you find yourself that you still understand that yes?

As for the 'extreme' left, it's not the 'extreme' left that have been setting fire to libraries, burning out advice centres, beating up dozens of police officers, setting fire to police vans, beating up people with a different skin colour, setting fire to buildings full of families and inspiring alarm and fear in thousands of people all over the UK. No, that would be the far right all this week.

Or is this somehow justified becuase of the need to 'defend' judeo-christian values?

I would strongly suggest you don't know anything about the UK as much as you might think you do from a handful of visits over the years.

Appreciated, but the illegal immigration is the most visible, talked about bit isn't it.

I'm surprised he hasn't tried to seek asylum in Russia (ironic as that activity would be), they don't extradite anyone and his values align with theirs.

I completely lack those values and my entire family (white as snow FWIW, not that it matters) has been resident in south Birmingham for over 300 years. Religion is a cancer upon this earth.

Being a good human is not based on whatever religion you follow, some of the most horrid, judgemental, nasty people who I've ever come across in real life have been devout Christians.

Not really surprising that Australia has a massive racism problem which they love to sweep under the carpet when you see posts as poor as yours.

This has to be a wind-up right? :E When was the last time there was a communist group going around the country looting shops and threatening to burn people alive?

As the poster in question has declared the Liberal Democrats to be a right wing party, and Kamala Harris to be a communist, and has chosen to decline invitations to correct either point, I don't think much credibility is on offer here.

I wonder if the troubles will fade away now, the puppet masters moving back into the shadows while the useful idiots (including Elon) will have to face the consequences.

Andrew Tate has produced a video slating Nigel Farage big time, as Nigel now seems to be massively backtracking and name dropped Andrew as a source of the false information. That will hurt Nigel's credibility and has already seen a lot of people turn on him because, amazingly, lots of people supporting the riots are also Andrew Tate fans. Who knew?!

Meanwhile, Lee Anderson doesn't want any of the protestors being jailed because it was mostly a bunch of lads who had one too many and didn't do anything too bad - heck, he claims we all did similar when we were young. Funny how he wanted Just Stop Oil protestors jailed for ten years and fined £10k each. He thinks we just need to sit down and talk to them to hear their concerns.

There are consequences for what they've said and are saying and I hope we'll hear about action being taken in the coming days and weeks.

The people who came out yesterday in the tens of thousands didn't get arrested or burn anything down and they weren't just far-left. They were left, centre-left, centre and centre-right. Basically everyone left of the far-right nutjobs. You can still support conservative views and not want to murder people in hotels or loot shops.

We saw, yet again, that there is no silent majority. It's very much a minority, and in a few weeks it will be even more of a minority as a not insignificant number will be in prison.
