FAO Anyone with a Photopic website

Hi folks, just after an idea about profitability. I notice that if you want the full version there are fees involved and I'm wondering if profits from sales outweigh these. Is it worth signing up to? I'm currently doing OK from Google AdSense on my YouTube site, but not much from AdSense on my photo blog. Photo and video is a hobby, but I'm wanting the web to at least pay for a good holiday each year for me also (so I can make even more films).

Do I take it that the lack of responses is down to the fact that A. They're not profitable at all but nobody wants to admit it, or B. They make loads and nobody wants to admit it in case the tax-man is reading?

As someone who has run a "niche railway webite" in the past (but not Fotopic) I found that any of these measures to make money are likely to offset the costs of running it slightly, rather than make phat profit.......!

Don't run a fotopic myself, but I do pay for a domain and webspace from webs and have the option of doing the adds thing.

Personally, I wouldn't be interested in trying to make money, thats when the hobby becomes a business, and I like to use my hobby as a means of escaping the business world.

Also, as I don't like been subjected to adds when visiting a site, I wouldn't like to force it upon people who are visiting mine.

Go for the intermediate level (Plus) - you get rid of adverts, and the cost is not too much (especially if you sign up on one of the deal days ie halfprice or double quota)

I do not sell via my image collections and personally tend not to repsond to adverts! so can't comment on this aspect

If you get a paid service (such as fotopic premium or your own website), then costs are going to be a factor.

Getting Google ads or signing up for an affiliate program somewhere can offset these costs a bit. Just don't put a great big advert at the top which takes up half the screen!

I use flickr pro for my photos - its about £15 per year which TBH isn't much for unlimited hosting!
