Sometimes on this forum people are accused of living in a fantasy world. This is your chance to embrace that! (Sort of).
What would be your dream gala or event at a UK Heritage Railway?
Rules are:
1. On completion of the new LNER P2, I'd love to see a fully LNER gala on the NYMR, featuring:
2007, Tornado as LNER no. 163, possibly 60532 Blue Peter in LNER colours, the J27, Kirby Stephen's J21 (maybe those two could pair up on heavier trains?), the Q6, Sir Nigel Gresley, one of the B1s (ideally 1264) and maybe 62005. And to top it off, hire in the SVR's teak rake to complement that of the NYMR!
2. A gala dedicated to heavy freight engines - An 8F, WD 2-8-0 90733, WD 2-10-0 90773 or 3672 (both?), 2857, 92212, maybe an S160? Ideally you'd include some freight trains with brake van rides or something like that. I reckon the GCR would be a good place for this.
Fire away!
What would be your dream gala or event at a UK Heritage Railway?
Rules are:
- Standard Gauge or Narrow permitted
- Steam, Diesel, Electric (where possible) or a mix
- Can be set in the present or some time in the future - i.e. to mark a particular anniversary, or when a particular loco currently under overhaul/awaiting restoration is returned to steam
- Share your theme, if there is one (wartime, end of steam) or simply the criteria (e.g. maybe just your favourite engines)
- Must only include locomotives which are still in existence or currently under construction - so nothing that didn't survive the Scrapyard, unless it's an existing member of the class with an identity swap (like 4464 Bittern masquerading as 4492 Dominion of NZ). Announced but not yet started projects, such as the V4, are permitted, as is reactivating a loco currently on static display with no plan for restoration (i.e. Green Arrow). I'll also allow boiler tickets to be taken with a pinch of salt because you never know!
- Must only be set on a UK heritage railway as it currently exists or as it is planned to. So the GCR post-Bridge The Gap is permitted, but electrifying the Bluebell to justify running DC stock is not!
- Must be largely realistic (so no Duchesses at Tanfield or 9Fs at Middleton, or running a 2ft gauge loco on a 2' 3" line) but artistic licence permitted - for example, I'm not concerned about hire fees being prohibitive or anything like that.
