Euston to be next to St Pancras to improve interchanges.

Gloucester to be on the XC route and not awkwardly off it.

Denton: to the southern side of Manchester Road instead of its present site north of the said road and the M67 motorway. Could also allow for additional footfall from surrounding commercial development, industrial estates and retail premises (the Sainsburys superstore, Premier Inn, and KFC). If the service is upgraded from a Saturday return journey to a decent daily hourly frequency.

Craigendoran to have an interchange with the West Highland Line.

Why? If you happen to live in the immediate area, you're not far from Helensburgh Upper for WHL trains. If you're coming off the WHL and want to change, you can do it at Dalmuir or Dumbarton, and once again use Helensburgh Upper if you want to visit the local area.

Dore.

Put it on the MML so that services from Chesterfield/ Dronfield etc can call there too (at the moment, Dore station is on the single track chord between the MML and the Hope Valley line, which limits the number of services that can use its single platform and limits the time that they can dwell there, given that its on the bottleneck chord).

Maybe even move it further north, towards Millhouses?

Rotherham Central.

Replace it with Masborough. Central Rotherham is a ghost town nowadays (the usual problem of being located between a big retail park - Parkgate - and a big mall - Meadowhall). Diverting services over the flat junction at each end and negotiating the single track Holmes Chord is a major disruptor that causes delays. Much better to have a four track station at Masborough instead - run a TramTrain shuttle from there through central Rotherham to Parkgate if you must.

It may be a bit of a desert, but moving the station nearly half a mile further out is hardly likely to improve the town's prospects! Central is also a short walk over the bridge from the bus station. That convenient interchange would be lost with closure. I'd go for additional platforms at Central along with a new connecting alignment towards Sheffield thus:rotherham.jpg

That doesn’t actually involve moving the station, merely constrcting more platforms, although it does indeed need 3 more platforms!

Reconstruction of Platform 2 at Dore & Totley is due to start in 2019, completion by 2021 when Liverpool-Norwich is split at Nottingham and remapped to TPE or Northern with new 3rd fast service Manchester-Sheffield.

Millhouses needs a new station, but the building of the Tesco's superstore across the old trackbed rather complicates that.

Close Sandal & Agbrigg, replace with Agbrigg on the L&Y line. This would make Wakefield Kirkgate a lot more useful as an interchange. It would also effectively make a section of 4-track on the line into Leeds, allowing fast trains to overtake slow ones (& get rid of the split at Adwick).

Combine Foxton and Shepreth into a single station.
Why? Shepreth is in Shepreth and serves Shepreth, what is the point in moving it? The same goes for Foxton. I appreciate they are close together, but I don’t see the logic in combining them.

Kirkstall Forge, move it South Eastwards towards Leeds to just by Kirstall Bridge, it would be more central to Bramley and remove the need to travel all the way into Leeds to change trains when going towards Harrogate as it would be quite easy to get off and go for a short walk to Headingley.

Close all London termini and make an absolutely colossal London interchange. No more tube transfers when crossing London! Although the station will be so big that the time savings won't be that profound.

Close Glasgow Queen Street and merge with Central. No more silly 7 minute transfer through central Glasgow.

Close Moorthorpe and South Elmsall and open a new parkway station which covers services towards Sheffield, York, Leeds and Doncaster

Close Thorne South and Thorne North and create a new Parkway station to serve Cleethorpes, Hull and Manchester Airport via Sheffield and Doncaster

Close Wakefield Westgate and Wakefield Kirkgate and open a new interchange station which covers all services through Wakefield

But the station I would really like to close/relocate would have to be New Pudsey. The current station seems to be ideally placed for direct vehicle access off the ring road, if it was moved further Eastwards, it would be better connected to the Owlcoates Shopping Centre, home to ASDA and M&S Superstores. But also it would be directly connected to the main road running through Farsley. That appears to be quite a nice place for socializing, (when going through on the bus). Linking up it could become an ideal bus rail-interchange. I would name it 'Farsley' and relay the Pudsey Loop and open up a new station somewhere along near to where 'Pudsey Greenside' station used to be and call it 'Pudsey'.
