Hi, wondering if anyone could advise.
Am.travelling down from Manchester to.Gatwick and have realised our tickets don't have the family railcard added on (not my fault!)
There are 4 adults and 4 children so it'd be a significant saving. They are off peak return tickets, so wondering if there is a way we could get the discount added on for the return journey?
Thanks in advance!

You may be better off having the original tickets refunded before using them. And purchasing new discounted tickets for all 8 passengers.

If you have purchased 4 Adult and 4 Child Saver returns then you will have paid £491.40

Purchasing new tickets with railcard discount will cost you approx £280.

If the issuing company charges you £10 admin fee per refund (total £80), this means your trip will cost approx £360, still around £130 cheaper than using original undiscounted tickets.

I believe if all tickets were purchased as one transaction then only 1 x £10 admin charge is payable. So ignore that part of my above post.

Cheers.
Problem is we are already on the outward journey and arriving in Euston fairly soon! But returning on Tuesday so wondering if there was a way of doing it for the return part?

If you are currently on the train, or have used the outward portion, there is nothing you can do (atleast nothing that would be worth doing) unless you specified at the time of purchase that you had a railcard.

If you go to the ticket office before travel you could apply for a refund* and buy new tickets for the journey.

*If you bought the tickets online or via telesales, the ticket office will not accept them for refund, you will need to apply to the company you bought them from, but they will still sell you new tickets for your journey.

As others have said, sorry, no (unless the omission of the Railcard discount is the railway industry's fault - rather unlikely, I guess!). It's not possible to have Railcard discount applied retrospectively.

The purpose of this post is to correct the inaccuracy in the post above. The refund fee is indeed £10 per Off-Peak Return ticket, a whopping £80 for 4 adults and 4 children. In this instance, it's cheaper to continue using the existing undiscounted tickets.

Your existing Off-Peak Returns Manchester - Gatwick are likely to be 4 adults at £81.90 and 4 children at £40.95 each. If you applied for refunds on arrival at Gatwick, you would be deemed to have used Off-Peak Singles Manchester - Gatwick for 4 adults at £80.90 and 4 children at £40.45 each, leaving no refund value after deducting the £80 fees.

Multiple tickets bought from one company in one transaction *may* be processed with one refund admin fee, however in this case it would still leave the Op owing the company money and is therefore not worth doing.
