Family railcard.

Hi all, quick question, bought family railcard last December. My 2 sons at the time were 15 and 10. Now the eldest is 16 can I still use it in respect for him as a child until December or do I now use railcard as 2 adults and 1 child. Thanks for any replies

The terms and conditions say he can still travel with you and the Famiy & Friends Railcard at child far until the Railcard expires.

Expect varying degrees of difficulty with staff in this respect.

He can continue to travel on the Railcard on child fare until expiry of the Railcard.

Superb thanks for reply. Hypothetically then when my youngest son reaches 15 could I buy a 3 year f&f and he would be allowed to use it until he was 18 and be classed as the child.

The terms and conditions (https://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/help/railcard-terms-conditions/) state "Children aged under 16 at the time that the Railcard is purchased may still travel at the discounted child fare throughout the validity period of the 1-year Railcard, even if they become 16 years old during that time or, for a 3-year Railcard until the child turns 17" but it would certainly be worth buying a railcard before he turns 16 to allow you to make the most of it for a year!

This! When traveling or booking under these conditions it is well worth carrying the leaflet or other “official” printed item showing the relevant T&Cs, or have the appropriate webpage bookmarked on your phone.

As normal, most staff are great, but Sod’s law says the one that missed that bit in the training will find you!
