Falmouth to Manchester

Been asked to look for a single from Falmouth to Manchester on 14th December. 16-25 Railcard is available.

Not expecting great savings to be made, as this is Cross Country territory. Splitting at Bristol shaves a bit off, but are there any creative thinkers out there who can suggest something better?

If you're looking for a creative solution, try a Falmouth to Totnes CDS, combined with a 'half-price' Totnes- Preston '2T' SVH, purchased from the Virgin website at the same time as a cheap advance single for notional travel far in the future in the other direction (to be thrown away).

The train must stop at Totnes, of course, and the Totnes- Preston SVH ticket is valid for travel via Manchester and to 'stop short' at Manchester Piccadilly.

Otherwise, many of the suggestions in this thread: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=93175
are valid, albeit with the appropriate [single] tickets 'extended' so as to start from Falmouth and finish at Manchester.

Splitting at Bristol TM and Stoke, can gets this to £44.45 single with a 16-25 Railcard on Advances. Would the suggestion above actually be any cheaper than this?

I also had a thought about a Falmouth Docks to Falmouth Town 7 day season (at £3.40) and a combination of off-peak singles thereafter, anyone got any thoughts on that, and where to split?

Yes, it would be valid on trains which do not stop at the split point, but I have heard of plenty of problems when people do that.

You do so at your own risk.

I can do Bristol - Manchester for £18.65 using a couple of (rather outrageous) loophole tickets.

No great ideas for the Bristol - Falmouth section though.

Splitting at Newton Abbot, Teignmouth or Dawlish used to be the cheapest way of doing Falmouth to Bristol, unsure if this is still the case.

I had to make the OPs journey 2 years ago, and got so frustrated with the poor timings and unreasonable prices I ended up driving!

Doesn't look to be any cheaper to split at Dawlish/Teignmouth.
