Hi everyone,

What are peoples experiences of people failing the course whether it be on rules, traction or whatever?

Do you think there is a specific reason why a person would struggle?

Thanks for any info

From my experience with a suburban operator, you'd expect to loose one out of every intake of about 10. Harder to quantify with an inter city outfit, as there's far fewer trainees - less than 10 PA - but the percentage is probably about the same.

If someone fails rules or traction, they are put through the course again. You get two chances. I've never know anyone drop out at either stage, but I'm sure some must do.

I've known several people get to the train handling stage, and realise that the job is not for them. Management will also intervene at this stage, if it becomes apparent that someone is simply not cut out for the environment. If someone fails a final assessment, they are given more training, and have another go. I can only think of one person failing twice; if there's a fundamental problem, one party or the other, will usually have acted long before then.

What you will find, is plenty of support & encouragement throughout the process, both from colleagues & management. It's in everyone's interests for you to succeed.
