Hello all.

There's large disruption tonight at Cardiff Queen Street with 2M46 failing and northbound trains now being delayed by up to an hour. I'm sorry to ask, but does anyone have an idea what unit failed and why, as it seems quite serious to require fitters an hour to get it moving again.

Bring on the new Platform 5 and loop at Queen Street that will hopefully reduce the impact of platform blockages on the northbound lines!

Thanks,
Jamie.

merlodlliw: I wonder why I too assumed it would be a Pacer ;)

Unit was 143625 with an engine defect then unable to release brakes.

Thanks for the information. Obviously there's never an ideal time for a failure, but it was especially bad timing to happen at the start of rush hour on the only northbound platform at Queen Street!

Once again we see how useful the City Line can be! Got knows what the performance figures for ATW would be without it, as I tend to lose count of how many times services are diverted onto it to avoid various issues or just to make up time.

Awful trains pacers, we used to have them up here on the Bidston line,I met a friend from Europe in Cardiff last year,he was amazed ATW ran such trains.

Still - with electrification just a matter of a few years away, there seems little point in replacing them...
