Failed assessment

Hi guys,
I went backpacking in June and it inspired me to finally chase my childhood dream and pursue a career in becoming a driver.

I applied for a number of roles with Scotrail; Gateline staff, ticket examiner, train presentation and such to get my foot in the door.

After two months of waiting, two weeks ago from now, I finally got an assessment sent to me.
This morning, I got the email telling me that I didn't pass the assessment and can't apply for anything until 6 months has passed. While offering no feedback on what part I got wrong.

I'm anxious because I'm 29 years old, and concerned that they'll be less inclined to take me on as a new start as I get older, regarding 6 month periods between every possible fail.

I suppose I just sort of need to get it off my chest among people who may understand.

Started as a trainee driver one month to the day before my 48th , just over four years ago. You are a mere pup . ( There are older trainees than me too ).

A colleague of mine started his driver training just after his 57th birthday. Don’t stress about your age mate, just keep your eyes on job websites and keep applying as vacancies appear. It can sometimes take years to land a driver job (as I found out myself) so prepare to be patient but it’ll all be worth it in the future

When recruiting, they are more interested in you passing the psychometric tests and giving what they are looking for in both interviews than what your age is!
Often the older person will find it easier during MMI and DMI as they could possibly have more and / or better examples for the answers to the questions asked.

Recruiters can’t generally see someone’s fate of birth on an application these days anyway, to avoid candidates being discriminated because of it. At 29 you’re a spring chicken anyway.

I had an interview for a train dispatcher role at Queeen Street in Glasgow 2 years ago and didn't get the job, recieved the email about not applying for 6 months but that was just for train dispatcher jobs at Queen Street, any other jobs at Scotrail were fine for applying (emailed them about that query). They also didn't offer any feedback even though I got to the face to face interview and just said getting to that stage was an achievment in itself. What job was the assessment for?

Did you end up getting another role with Scotrail?

This assessment was for Gateline at Central Station.
I'm pretty sure it was the calculations part that tripped me up, so I'm gonna learn how to do those calculations properly haha.

Nope, but recieved the email to say I passed the assessment and going onto the next stage. The calculation part was a nightmare, the practice test was pretty easy but the actual test was so much harder, I honestly thought I mucked it up as I knew I messed up quite a few answers.

Is that for dispatch at QST again?

I relate to that big time, I got one wrong, and one skipped in the practice, then the bombshell of the real assessment hit haha.
