Fading photocard

My photocard is fading, the ink on it looks blotchy and no one has said anything but reading threats from revenue staff it would be better to get it replaced.
I have always kept it in my walled and away from sunlight but don't understand how it can fade when there is a plastic covering.
How do I change the photocard ? Will I be charged, I will have to pay £5 to get new photos done!!

Take a photo to booking office and ask for a new one. Whilst I've never had issues with photocards/railcards/season tickets fading but it's not uncommon and there should be no charge (beyond supplying the photo ).

If the existing photo is still good it can be re-used in a new photocard. If not, this will be your only cost as replacements for faded Railcards (and Photocards) are done at no cost to the holder.

Do you have a current season? Be aware that that will need to be reissued too (so photocard numbers match) if so.

There are online suites that will enable you to upload a photo and they will shrink it down to passport size (etc) for you to print, such as: http://www.idphoto4you.com/

These save you the cost of having them professionally done, especially as it doesn't need to be passport standard to be put into a photocard.

I have a friend with a 1980s issued photocard still.

I had one of those until about 3 years ago. It was from when photocards first came out. There is no rule that they need to be changef so I never did.
