I know this is going to sound hypocritical considering the method of delivery for this post but ....

Am I the only person who has no interest in tweeting or facebook ?

Just mentioned on Question Time that tweeting is to be allowed in HOC.

I have to ask this; can either even be considered a "service", as sopposed to "waste of time and Internet capacity"?

By the way, what is meant by "HOC"?

To answer, I do have a Facebook account but it has not been touched for some time; maybe three times in six months even? The other one is a no-go area for me.

I use Facebook (have done since just before starting uni as it was the in thing at the time (and you couldn't join if you were under 16 IIRC) and was useful for sharing stuff amongst people at uni. I still use it though since the last update they did, probably less so than before.

Never used Twitter. Almost signed in for it but realised it would just be another drain on time and since I have Facebook I can use that to keep up with whats happening anyway

I only joined Facebook last month after years of trying to avoid it. :|

Same here, but it's the best way to keep in touch with a few friends who mean a lot to me - but live a long way away, and for that it serves it purpose, though I don't see the point with people you see every day.
As for Twitter it's not for me, you really have to be famous for it to be worth an account IMO.

I'm not famous, but I have over 1200 followers on Twitter. It's much less time consuming or invasive than Facebook, which I have given up on long ago.

Twitter is great if you want to get something sorted instantly, especially with a company. Only last month an error at Bedford regarding Off Peak times was rectified by FCC within two hours of it being brought to their attention on Twitter.

TOC's twitter presences are really good and shows a more transparent side to the company in my opinion.

Just out of interest, which TOCs have the best Twitter feeds in your view?

I have a Facebook account, but it's rarely used. I just have some close friends on there, as well as people from university who I can't delete until after I graduate. Some people take that sort of thing far too personally.

Did sign up to Twitter, but I just don't get the point - unless you're using it to 'tweet' complaints to companies.

London Midland are normally quite good, and Southern aren't bad either. The TOC's that don't have personalised twitter accounts do also have an automatic feed from NRE.

Southeastern have recently started tweeting as well.

Another good account to follow is BBC Travel Alert, often very funny. 'Theres onlyyyy onnneeeee Wooolwicch Ferry' (sing it in a football chanting voice)

If I have a problem I'm straight on twitter and during office hours the tweets are normally answered really quickly.

I pity the fool who has to write the FCC tweets.

14:30pm: Normal service resume..oops, typo: All trains out of London delayed.
15:00pm: Most trains are delayed.

I hope I wasn't the only one that read that in Mr T's voice.
I use Facebook but not twitter yet there is a use for both. The former for a long message including a link and informing people before (an offer for example) whereas the latter is better for real time info like as I understand LM do.

STATUS: Sitting in bedroom, typing on Rail UK. Wondering why I bought a ticket at Clifton Down last time I went there from the ticket machine, only to not use it. Oh yes - because it's such an amusing ticket! (If someone reminds me, when I get my new laptop I'll scan it in for you all.)

I use both, but I don't 'contribute' (i.e. post / Tweet) to them. TBH if I had to get rid of either of them I wouldn't really mind.

I use Twitter more than I do Facebook - and to echo comments above, the best 2 transport-related accounts are the BBC travel news and LM. You have to feel sorry for Ally having to put up with all the complaints on the FCC side of things though!

You can now have the best of both worlds with your Tweets automatically being posted as your Facebook Status!

I find Facebook exceptionally useful for organising and keeping track of events with my group(s) of friends, although it seems to get increasingly more convoluted to navigate and to find what I am looking for with every alteration that the site goes through. I seem to hang around with some interesting people who make more interesting, entertaining and amusing posts than might be considered the norm as well!

I have no interest in twitter though.
