Hello all,

About two weeks a go, all of a sudden, the battery on my phone (Sony Xperia S, Ice Cream Sandwich) would only last about 3 hours, even if only on standby, this really confused me, I checked the battery usage and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, I checked Google and the only problems people had didn't really apply to my situation. I started to think that I had fried the battery somehow by charging it to much as I charge it every night (due to it having a low capacity battery).

On Tuesday I was having a little play with the settings and came across the data usage app and noticed that Facebook was right at the top of the list with extremely high data usages. On the Tuesday, I hadn't touched the phone all day apart from about 20mins or so in the morning and then for a short while in the evening but Facebook had downloaded 160mb (background data, foreground data was 1 or 2mb), I broadened the chart to show a weeks worth of data and in that time Facebook had managed to use 1.3GB of data (all background data)! Bearing in mind that the phone had been off most of the time apart from when I checked it for whatever, to preserve the battery, I turned off all syncing options apart from one or two push notifications and still had significant usage.

I checked Google and no one else seems to have this problem, I'm unable to check when the app was updated but my guess was the latest update has triggered the awful amount of data being used. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips to reduce the usage, at the mo I have disabled FB and my battery has returned to normal. I do like to use FB so would prefer to enable it but I'll guess I will have to wait for an update to fix it.

Has anyone else have this happen to them? It may be worth you all checking your data usage to see if it has jumped up.

Luckily I have unlimited downloads so don't have to worry about an unexpected huge phone bill.

Thanks,
Lewis.
