FA Cup Semi Final Trains

Hi all,

As a Manchester City fan, I will be travelling to Wembley on 16th April to see us destroy United . Thomas Cook Sport are offering a package through the Club for train travel from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston for £79 return, which isn't too unreasonable. (However I've decided to travel down in my own time so have booked normal tickets through Virgin).

Still, my questions are these:

- Who is it that will arrange the train - Thomas Cook or the Football Club?
- Will the train be formed from hired-in stock and locos? If so, what?
- Is there any information out there for these special trains yet?

That's very interesting. I asumed the stock would come from Riviera or the like. Should be very interesting...any non-football fan would be sensible to totally avoid Euston at about 7pm on the Saturday! :P

There is an issue with the up slow platform at Wembley Central being a little on the short size (barely 8 coaches). Things have stopped there in the past but I think that it depends on arrangements with stewarding the doors as to whether charter sets stop there or not.

Units are not such a problem as they can use SDO or, in the case of an 8 car 350, lock the back unit out though, to the best of my knowledge, Pendolinos have never stopped there.

I know the clubs have hired 5 extra trains, possibly more. I'd expect the trains to be staggered with the first leaving Piccadilly at 10am or so...

Are extras being laid on for Bolton v Stoke at Wembley on Sunday?

Bolton have got a Rail Blue charter leaving Bolton at 09.15 and Thomas Cook one leaving Horwich Parkway at 10.02. As I live in Stalybridge, I've opted to travel on an off-peak return with reservations there and back so I've got a seat secured on the way down and no extra time panics that an advance ticket would bring

Not actually relevant to this weekend, but Virgin (West Coast Trains) have just last week had a track access application approved to stop at Wembley Central on 15th May, currently they have no calling rights, which is probably why they don't call charters there already.

West Coast Trains Limited have submitted a Train Operator Variation Request for a charter train to run to and from Wembley Central on Sunday 15th May 2011.
The access rights they hold for the operation of charter trains only allows them to be scheduled to call at stations in the regular calling pattern.Therefore the Train Operator is seeking rights specific rights to have charter trains scheduled to start and terminate at Wembley Central as this station is not listed in the regular calling patterns
