Indeed, should we avoid all discussion until every last forum member with an interest in F1 has watched the races on either BBC, iPlayer, Sky+, or other time-shift catch up......?

Can I make a suggestion, for everyone who is watching on Sky Sports, DON'T talk about any result or what is happening until AFTER BBC have shown the highlights, just for the benefit of the guys who are avoiding the result and awaiting the highlights on BBC

Thanks :)

I'm watching on RTL, not Sky Sports, so the result so far...

:D

Since I made that disastrous posting after the previous race had ended but the highlights had not been shown on terrestrial television, you will have no fear that I will make the same mistake twice...:roll:

Last year in the Canadian Grand Prix they said that the clock was stopped when the race was suspended. However as discussed earlier in the thread, there is an overall four hour time limit regardless of suspensions and I can't find any reference to the 2 hour racing time limit in the regulations.

Much more choice on the red button on Sky than on the BBC, but then there would be I guess because the BBC had to cater for Freeview, which has limited capacity.

In some sports on the BBC there are more options on sattelite/cable than on freeview.

2 years ago the malaysia was ended after 2 hours and half points were awarded for the race, possibly this has been changed to 4 hours then.

There was no overall time limit in effect last year at Canada. The four hour rule was introduced this year.

There's always been a 2 hour race time limit (well for a long time anyway); the four hour overall limit was introduced this year.

Oh.

I've just had a quick look and I can't find any refrence saying the 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix was officialy abandoned due to an overall 2 hour time limit. It was too dangerous at the time and it was getting dark so a restart wouldn't have been an option.

sorry it was 2009 malaysia grand prix that ended early due to time limit. Half points were awarded at the Malaysian Grand Prix as less than 75% of the scheduled distance was completed.

The race was never restarted after the red flag on lap 31.

Yes, I just discovered that although it wouldn't have made much difference on that day even if there was no two hour rule as it would have been too dark to restart. Still doesn't explain Canada last year though.

Is that still in force now though? I can't seem to find it in the 2012 regulations.

Yes, otherwise what would be the point of the 4 hour limit? Anyway it's way over 2 hours since the race started.

The point of the 4 hour limit is to have an overall limit as without it a race could as you said ealier last up to 8 hours. I can't find any reference to a separate 2 hour racing time limit.

Martin is always going on about it.

FIA Rules said:
5.3 The distance of all races, from the start signal referred to in Article 38.9 to the chequered flag, shall be equal to the least number of complete laps which exceed a distance of 305 km (Monaco 260km). However, should two hours elapse before the scheduled race distance is completed, the leader will be shown the chequered flag when he crosses the control line (the Line) at the end of the lap during which the two hour period ended. However, should the race be suspended (see Article 41) the length of the suspension will be added to this period up to a maximum total race time of four hours.

massa is digging his way deeper out the door, I cant see ferrari accepting his standards much longer, especially finishing over a minute and half slower than Alonso.

He's just not been the same since his head injury.

To think he came with within a whisker of winning the Championship a few years ago.

Why Canada was allowed to go over the two hour time limit that applied in 2009. However I think it's now clear that the rules were different back in 2009 and a red flag did not stop the clock then.

I was pretty sure the rules regarding red flags weren't changed then, and I was correct. Here's a thread from another forum from 2007 which talks about a the timer being stopped under a red flag: http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98700

Edit: The rule has been in place since 2005.

Exactly, poor old Felipe. I don't hold out much hope for his position.

Good race, though. Always is when it's wet. Interesting to see Sauber doing so well and Williams-Renault (never thought I'd see that again) scoring a few points. This might shake things up for a while.

Only now finished watching it :( I'd like to think we can discuss the result by now. Maybe that idea of "Don't read the thread" should stand after all - just don't start revealing it in other threads.

Anyhow, a fantastic result for young Perez, especially after Monaco last year. I feel sorry for him after his error, but still a fantastic performance and the team's best ever result when not under BMW control (eclipsing a few 3rd place finishes, such as Johnny Herbert at Hungary 1997 for instance). One to watch for the future.

As for Massa, I really feel for him. As Bungle73 said he just hasn't been the same since his accident. He got so close in 2008 - I doubt anyone has fallen from 1st so late in the season, or certainly without penalties taking place anyway (i.e. after he had finished the last race) - but now I fear the best for him is a seat swap with Perez, i.e. back to where his career began.

I've been highly impressed by Perez since he debuted last year, lots of consistant drives and quite a few points now. What's the betting he will be driving a Ferrari next year?

They were trying to make out that Perez lifted off in the final laps to avoid overtaking the Ferrari, who supply Sauber's engines, and who Perez is a one of their prodigies, on the BBC News earlier. I don't see it. He went wide on a corner, and as a result fell back - seems that's all there is to it to me.
