Hi All,

Does it have to be the named card holder who buys the railcard as long as they have signed the application form?

The Railcard and tickets bought with it are not transferable and must not be given, loaned, or resold to anyone else. Only the named cardholder(s) can use the Railcard.

Both the First named holder and the Second named holder must sign the Railcard before use to show acceptance of all the Conditions listed in this leaflet. The name of the Second holder must be provided at the time of purchase and may not be added during the period of validity of the Railcard.

If you mean can you buy the railcard for somebody else, and yourself never be included on it, then no, I don't think you can!

The only problem I can see is if the seller insists on the RC being signed at that time. (It must be signed on the back to be valid). Obviously the purchaser cannot use the card.

No - I mean if somebody who wants a railcard for a journey starting at an unstaffed station (and is unable to get to a staffed one before travel) could they fill in the form and get somebody else who is going to a staffed station to buy the railcard?

Which, aside from normally being available cheaper, is a good idea since the station printed versions fade very easily.
