F&F 3 year card with 14 year old

Hello,

My f&f railcard is up for renewal and my child has just turned 14, I am thinking of getting the 3 year card as my understanding is we can then use this and get the discount until the day before there 17th birthday.

What I would like to know is how this works, do we just keep buying child tickets for my child (even when they are 16) when we are all traveling and using the card or would we have to buy adult tickets for my child from their 16 birthday?

The terms and conditions say:

Children aged under 16 at the time that the Railcard is purchased may still travel at the discounted child’s fare throughout the validity period of the 1-year Railcard, even if they become 16 years old during that time or, for a 3-year Railcard until the child turns 17.

The key bit there as regards your question is "... at the discounted child's fare ...."

Could I suggest that you pick up a F&F Railcard leaflet at a station sometime, and when the child reaches 16 you carry that with you (it has the T&C on the back) as not all rail staff are aware of this rule. Even the excellent lady at my local station had to be shown this as she was unaware of the "until the child turns 17" rule.
