Was surprised today to catch a Waterloo to Shepperton via Richmond train on a Saturday when they don’t normally run. Don’t seem to be in the published timetable. Is this an extra service for Twickenham rugby match days?

Not an extra service as such - it looks like the stock and traincrew for Waterloo - Kingston - Shepperton services were diverted to the Richmond route instead to provide extra capacity at Twickenham without having to actually run extra trains.

The last Waterloo - Kingston - Shepperton train was at 1112, then 2112 with Waterloo - Richmond - Shepperton trains running instead.

Yes, I was going to ask about that. I took the 1216 from SHP to WAT & it went via Richmond (Semi Fast, so a better and slightly quicker journey than normal) and I came back on the 2112 which came via Kingston, usual all stations. By co incidence, all SHP to WAT trains today Sun 06 Nov are going via Richmond, but call at all stations.

And the Hounslow loop was back in action on Saturday with a semi-fast service on the loop calling at Richmond, Twickenham, Hounslow, Brentford and Kew Bridge, all very difficult to follow with no amended timetable produced and no announcements on website/national rail about changes to train times and routes.

I do wish they would publicise the changes to train times.
