Extra trains for Ryder Cup , Gleneagles

I've not yet seen a topic referring to the Ryder Cup yet. How are the extra services running? I see from RTT that some are Scotrail DMUS Sprinters etc and some are 'timed for HST125s' which I assume are hired in East Coast HSTS, and some are diesel hauled , such as todays 0501 1Z15 ex Glasgow Central going forward to Dundee.( What stock would that be..?) How are the loadings? I hope our foreign visitors are making use of services !! Cant see many from USA being regular train users given that that its largely a car based society ! I assume Scotrail staff all wearing kilts ...??

I'm not sure, but one of the loco hauled sets has been the use of two DRS 68s and the DRS Mk2 sets - the first passenger run of the 68s!

Thanks for the pics. The new 68s look good on passenger duties . Obviously nice and shiny and giving a good impression to those who not be regular train users , or those that have to put up with those old Pacers.:

Unlikely to be hired in East Coast HSTs (or XC ones for that matter) XC had all four in use yesterday and one of thosde is now at Laira until Sunday (as booked). East Coast are unlikely to be able to spare HSTs given how stretched their fleet currently seems to be - they have been borrowing XC sets midweek when XC requirements are lower, though I wait to see pictures of HSTs on these duties if there are any.

Therefore its most likely to be the timing load which is the nearest available to schedule the train not what will actually operate it.

Could be the set of the 12:30 ex Kings Cross.

One of the sets this morning was definitely and East Coast one - but it could very easily have got back to Edinburgh before it was needed before the 0830.

There will be a spare XC set at EC tomorrow, so it's likely that set may be hired in

East Coast have been running two HST's from Edinburgh -Gleneagles early morning then run ECS to Edinburgh to form their respective services to London.

Also the 1818 Aberdeen to Leeds is a 170/158 combo to Edinburgh as the HST goes ECS Aberdeen -Gleneagles to work an additional Gleneagles to Edinburgh where it meets is respective working to Leeds.

Scotrail always do a remarkable job for the big golf tournaments. St Andrews is a well practiced plan, but sometimes events use stations where the facilities are not designed for big numbers. The plan for Turnberry a few years back required some imaginative timetabling and diagramming to get the maximum capacity out of the constrained route to Girvan.
