I boarded the 0753 ex-Derby HST at Sleaford , and the first class end of the train is around only 40% loaded (coach H is only around 20-25% loaded). I imagine a lot of people do not realise that first class on this service is declassified, or maybe this HST is a little too early for the masses compared to the next one later. Anyways, your best bet would be to aim for the first class coaches if you do make this journey.

**Update: Only 2 people boarded coach H at Boston, so still reasonably empty. I imagine the second HST will be a lot busier than this one.

**EDIT: A nice little shot of the HST in the sunshine at Skegness:

I took the later HST at 0943 ex-Nottingham and, as tipped off by others on this thread, found a comfortable seat in declassified first class. Train was probably about 80-90% full, with a fair few people taking a while to cotton on to the fact that first class was available to all.

I bailed out at Boston, enjoyed a nice walk and a couple of beers in the Eagle Tavern, then took the 1648 back which, as TheBigD had mentioned, was 153+156 and probably about two-thirds full. All in all, a nice day out, yes my fellow passengers were perhaps not people I'd choose to mix with, but once I'd plugged my mp3 player in I was able to enjoy the pleasant Lincolnshire countryside in peace!
