Not having used The Port for a few years, do the electrics still arrive and go
back from the same platform?

Yep. Platform 2 is not electrified. All EMUs arrive into the station, the guard gives the "ready to depart" signal to the Ellesmere Port signaller, and then the train sits there for about 5-10 minutes, before returning back to Liverpool.

Freight also uses Platform 2 as there is no crossover from Platform 1 to the Manchester Ship Canal branch.

Northern also use Platform 2 for their rather infrequent services to Helsby, but it is possible for them to use Platform 1 with prior arrangement with the signalman for W/C passengers etc.

When electrified, personally think both platforms should have done, and the same at Chester, at least 2 platforms should be electrified.

You are probably correct about number 4 its easier, but in the old days the Rock Ferrys departed from Platform 2, a 2nd electic line is years away at Chester, money to do it from where.

Thanks for that, agree about the Northerns, nothing after 0900 until 1600 then
nothing after 1700 until tomorrow, this must be Northerns least used line.

If it was not for Shell, I am sure the electrics would be extended The Port to Helsby as was the original plan, but alas never to be.
