Yesterday #1 daughter was travelling from Euston to Manchester on an Off Peak Return (Any Permitted).
In view of the weather and potential disruption, I did advise her about the alternative routes, via Reading, Birmingham, Sheffield etc..
I believe that via Warrington is also valid, so there was an opportunity to change at Warrington Bank Quay onto the Chester - Leeds service. I understand this would be valid to Manchester Victoria, but Rochdale as an end destination would have been much more convenient for her yesterday.
My question is, is it permissible to buy (online) a ticket for Manchester to Rochdale whilst on the train, but prior to arrival in Manchester, ie between Warrington and Manchester?
I note from the disputes section of the forum, umpteen instances where tickets have been bought only after boarding, which I know is not permitted and results in penalties etc..
In the end she took a direct Euston - Piccadilly service, but just curious.
