Btw - the reason the Newport Travelodge is a bit weird is that it's a converted cinema.

You probably slept where I once watched Star Trek First Contact.

This report, coupled with the reminder lately that the WAG Subsidy ends in 2015 hasprompted me to start planning my own trip on it and that in turn brings me to a question. How long did it take for dinner to be served BB21? Planning on leaving at SHR and dont want to miss anything!

The dinner doesn't have to take long. The attendant will ask where you are getting off, and I am sure she will ensure a speedy service. Last Friday the dessert was served around Shrewsbury, but I am sure yours can arrive sooner.

Why not make it a few days with the Explore Wales Rovers? The whole Wales one is valid throughout, South Wales version Cardiff to Shrewsbury, and North Wales version Shrewsbury onwards (still entitled to a full meal although reservation is recommended).

might do, the temptation is to go all the way to HHD but being no fan of Travelodge finding an affordable bed for the night is practically impossible!
