I’m visiting Cardiff for a few days the week after next. On one of my 4 days there I am planning on making use of an Explore Cardiff and Valleys Day Ranger. I’m finding some confusion as to the correct price and whether I can get a reduction with a Senior Railcard.
The Transport for Wales website advertises this ticket with the adult fare being £14.60 and a railcard fare of £9.60. This is also the prices given on the unofficial GB Railrover Guide website. However, the National Rail website lists this ticket at costing £13 with no railcard discount.
I will print a copy of the Transport for Wales advert and fares from their website to take to the station with me. Does anyone think I will have any problems getting the ticket for £9.60 with the railcard discount? Which station would the ticket office staff be more knowledgeable about this ticket and be able to sell it to me without any problems. Cardiff Central is the closest to my hotel but Queen Street is also not too far a walk.
It’s a whole new area for me to explore as I’ve never actually been to Cardiff before. Although I want to spend a whole day exploring the Valley Lines, for rest of my stay I want to explore the city, including the castle and Cardiff Bay. I might do a trip to Barry Island one day as that’s somewhere else I have never been.
