I recently travelled from Newcastle to Carlisle on the northern railways. I didn’t realise the railcard expired until it was checked and immediately bought a new one. The previous one expired on 29th of June 2025 and the date I travelled was 8th of July 2025. I received a letter asking for the explanation and have replied back apologsing. I am going to change my address as moving for a new job and have included in the email to keep me updated with further correspondence through email. However I am a little scared now as to what expect if they reject the appeal considering the wording of the letter and also afraid I might miss out on any further communication. What do I do?

To give you advice we would really need to see the letter you received and the reply you sent. Could you post them with your personal details redacted, please.
I would strongly advise arranging Postal Redirection through Royal Mail for at least 6 months after you move. It's a little pricey but it is the only way of being sure you won't miss any correspondence as you can't be sure that Northern will action your request.
That goes not only for this, but any other bills etc. relating to your old property - so it's a good idea whether you have a train ticket irregularity hanging over you or not.
