Hi all,
I was given a ticket by Northern for not having a valid railcard. The route i was travelling was Birmingham - Manchester. I am slightly confused why Northern issued this when I was travelling cross country? Or does it not matter?
My railcard expired in December 2025 and i had completely forgotten about it since i left the country in July 2024. I did not receive any notifications from trip.com to renew the railcard either. I returned to the UK in Jan and only started using trains in April. It completely slipped my mind to check the status of my rail card. I bought a new railcard in front of the officer btw.
I have taken 6 trips since ( 3 under 10GBP and 3 over 10 GBP) FYI.
I am not sure what to expect. I know I need to wait for a letter. But what can I expect? Court? Fine? Death penalty?
What does Northern do generally?
