I recently boarded a train with a railcard discounted ticket (16-25) completely oblivious to the fact that my railcard had infact expired by 9 days. With it being Christmas etc it had completey slipped my mind until I came to present it to the conductor on board. I showed my ticket and the railcard and the conductor and I both saw it had expired and I apologised and said I wasn't aware. The driver said he would need to confiscate the railcard and he took it from the sleeve. He driver advised me that he would allow me to continue my journey and didn't make me pay for a new ticket or take any of my details but did say he would need to send off the railcard. I am very worried they will be bring up my details from the railcard and and send me a prosecution letter. I have never evaded fares before and this was a genuine mistake. I renewed my railcard the next day as due to the time the ticket office was closed when I reached my destination. How likely is it that they will pursue this based on details held on file for the railcard. If the conductor let me continue my journey without a new ticket or a penalty or taking my details, am I lucky and that's the end of the matter?
