As some may know Exhibition Centre station up here in the wilds of Glasgow has recently been fitted with ticket barriers. Unfortunately they don't seem to like my ScotRail SmartCard and always seem to reject it with a code 57.

Does anyone know what code 57 is on the ScotRail version of the Cubic barriers? I have a feeling that it might be to do with break of journey not yet being properly implemented on the SmartCards but any assistance would be welcome!

I'm the exact same at Exhibition Centre. I've noticed that on the barriers that if you slightly mis-hit the yellow circle on the barrier, it will decline it. I've even got a decline at the barriers.

I phoned the Customer Relations team a few days ago and they advised me that have had several people phoning in in regards to tapping in and out and the barriers not liking it. All I got told was that they would refer it off to whoever and hopefully it would be fixed.

But apparently the Smartcard isn't 'officially' valid yet on the Argyle Line (this came from Scotrail's Twitter team) but the Customer Relations Team have confirmed that if you have a weekly, monthly or annual season then it is definitely valid.

Doing a bit of digging online would indicate that Code 57 is this...'57 Period ticket not valid Station not covered by Period ticket Refer to ticket office'

I saw a tweet not long ago claiming that the barriers were not yet connected to whatever system the Smartcard uses. Unfortunately I'm too lazy to look for the tweet as it was a week or two ago and could have been a load of rubbish for all i know

Customer Services, Social Media and other ScotRail teams very rarely seem to talk to each other so who actually knows what the final answer is!

It wouldn't surprise me if the barriers aren't correctly connected to the SmartCard system. I've also noticed that when the barriers were installed they had the barcode readers fitted for the upcoming barcoded tickets but the readers have now been removed!

I do despair of ScotRail sometimes.

The barriers do the same thing with me. For some reason my ITSO staff pass works on the standalone readers in SR territory but not on the ticket gates - giving the 57 error code. Yet the "paper" staff pass works.
I am mystified as well

Looks like it's my turn to be plagued with the Smartcard problems. Tapped in fine at Bridgeton yesterday and tapped out no bother at Glasgow Central.

Later on, tapped in fine at Central, but when I tried to tap out at Bridgeton, my card came up 'declined' and 'not in use'.

Customer Relations couldn't tell me why but they would raise a case for it. Does anyone actually investigate and work these cases...

I'm starting to doubt it to be honest. They're probably more busy dealing with the fallout from the story in todays Sunday Mail that Arbroath is Scotland's least punctual station. Apparently in recent times only 9.7% of trains have departed on time.

I'm trying to fathom the point of the ticket gates at EXG anyway as I've only ever seen them in use in the morning peak.

I'm guessing that they either don't have the staff to man them full time or don't think it's worth the expense.

Not In Use is what comes if the platform validator is, well, not in use. So sounds like a problem with the validator to me
