Exeter to Paddington Sleeper

If i wish to go on the sleeper service from Exeter to Paddington, do i have to book a berth or are there seated carriages to snooze in for the 5 hrs or so it takes?

There are both sleeper carriages and seated carriages

Both seats and berths. For the journey time from Exeter berths are barely worth it although they do allow you to stay on until after 7.00 in Paddington so you could still get 6 hours kip.

Although it is no longer compulsory it is strongly advisable to book a seat on that train.

Thanks for the quick replies, am i right in assuming that to take a normal seat rather than a berth, no supplement would need to be paid?

Correct - no supplement is payable

(I also second the recommendation to reserve a seat however)

But there are few travel experiences less pleasant than sitting up in a train seat all night.

Well,i've done it round Europe inter-railing in the 90s, and believe me some of the East European trains leave a lot to be desired!!! And the Paris to Rome overnight service isnt much fun with 4/6 people in a berth in 30+ degrees!! So 5 hours reading a book shouldnt be too bad.

i agree !! did the caley sleeper from crewe to aviemore many times in the past and did a days work straight after,absolute misery :cry:
