I saw this unusual train on the boards and announcements at Exeter St David's on Wednesday during disruption on XC but didn't have time to look it up or stick around. Anyone able to shed any light on it?

There’s a booked GWR Gloucester to Penzance service in each direction on Monday to Fridays, 07.00 from Gloucester and 15.50 from Penzance.

Has run for several years now, originally a short HST now a 5 car IET.

There is also an Exmouth to Cardiff Central train that runs (it departs Exmouth at 20:24) each weekday.

A really useful service for me even if it takes a very long time to get to Cardiff, may it long continue. Often produces a 158 as well which makes for a pleasant journey.

In August 2022 I went to Dawlish one evening and met a Dutch student at Exeter St Davids, but on the train from there appeared to develop a joint injury (sudden arm/shoulder dislocation I believe) and wanted help to find a hospital. I searched for some places on Google Maps and suggested them near where she was going, before I had to leave at Dawlish as my ticket went no further. However she then got off and she was acting all confused.

After a short call to what sounded like a relative, she then asked me for help to get back to Bath, where she was a student. This subject Gloucester train was the next one, so told her to get this and change at Bristol Temple Meads for a service calling at Bath Spa, it came in and I got her on it quickly (it was running late and understandably the guard was in a hurry), but she looked a bit panicked when I didn't get on as well. While I hoped she got further help from another passenger and/or on-board staff, I did feel a bit guilty for what looked like a rather rushed abandoning, even though I couldn't follow her round forever. This may not be entirely on topic, but I was reminded of the story by the fact the daily Gloucester-bound train was part of it.
