This is a bit of a long shot really considering how long ago it was but I was wondering if any ex Exeter drivers or staff were about that may remember my grandad..

He joined the Great Western Railway in 1913 at Exeter and retired in 1967 from Exeter shed. In his time he was based at Exeter St Davids, Old Oak Common , Treherbert and back to Exeter, I also think he was at Exmouth Junction after the Western took control.

As far as I am aware he was a driver instructor when the wonderful Westerns and Warships were in service..
If anyone can give me some insight into his career I would be eternally grateful. A photograph of him in service would be perfect.

Oh.. his name.... Ernest Charles Tarr... I understand he was at some point the branch secretary of ASLEF too..
