Probably another one of my silly questions, but between 1958 and the end of summer 1964 there were some summer excursion trains, Wakes week trains etc on my old line. The stations closed to regular passenger trains from 2/12/1957.
Some of these trips you would have an idea that they were going to run at / on / around certain dates, but with the stations closed to the public where would these trains be advertised? in newspapers etc?
The next question is with the stations closed, where would you buy your ticket from? would BR open the station up to sell these for a few days? or say on Saturdays maybe three weeks before?
Once you've got your ticket and you go to the normally closed station to wait for the train, would the station buildings be opened up for the public, e.g. so people could use the toilets, sit in the waiting room etc?
I don't think my old line was special in regards to running summer specials from its closed stations?
Thanks,
Andy.
