Excessing using a Rover

I've been looking at multi-day Rovers recently, and as always, I have been looking at First Class where possible. My question is this: what is the procedure when upgrading to First Class on a Rover ticket? I hope it's as simple as the difference between the SDS and the FDS for the journey but I'm not sure.

The official rule I believe is the difference between the appropriate First Class and Standard Class fares, so it could even be the difference between the off-peak fares (if available), as most Rover products are more like off-peak tickets, but YMMV.
