Excessing off-peak return where no anytime return exists

I am trying to excess the return portion of an Oxford-Shalford off peak return (£19.60 with 16-25 railcard) to an anytime return. But no anytime return exists; therefore, can it be excessed, or will I have to buy a whole new ticket?

The excess should be to the "appropriate" fare for the journey made (or wished to be made). As there is no Anytime Return, this would I believe be to 2xSDS making £29.60, i.e. £10 excess.

Surely Off-Peak Day Single was the lowest priced ticket available for immediate travel outward? (£11.75 or £12.00)

Yes, I did consider that but not sure whether both legs should be converted (as would happen if a SOR were available) - plus the restriction codes on the CDS and SVR are different (although having the same actual restriction in this case).

I imagine finding someone who will do it at all would be enough of a challenge! Always a bit pot luck how excesses are calculated IME - I once got two (identical) tickets excessed, at the same time, but calculated differently!

Thank you both. As it turns out, it was excessed to an anytime single at £5. This was after some debate and being unsure what to do.

It's always a bit of a minefield and down to pot luck as no TIS has built-in function for a ticket to be excessed to two AFAIK.
