Hello,

Should it be possible to excess the return leg of an Off-peak return? I bought an Off-peak return Warrington - Urmston this morning, but have ended up in Manchester, so I'll be returning Manchester Piccadilly - Warrington.

Will I need a new ticket, or should I be able to excess it? I'd most likely be getting a TPE/EMT train, which don't stop at Urmston, so a split wouldn't work.

Cheers,

Freddie

Worth asking though; if offered it should cost 80p.

Cheaper than buying a new Manchester-Warrington ticket (£7.50 Anytime Day Single) would be a Manchester-Birchwood Evening Return (if you're travelling after 1830) which is only £3.50, then using your existing ticket from Birchwood to Warrington. The train needs to stop at Birchwood - a cursory look suggests that both TPE and EMT do.

If you can get a train that calls at Irlam then an Evening Return is £1.90, and the Off Peak Day Single £3.70 (if you're travelling before 1830).

I'd advise shopping around...I'd have no problem doing an Overdistance Excess in such a scenario, though it's a matter of some debate as to whether you'd be able to subsequently use it on a train to Bank Quay rather than to Central.

Only one EMT stops at Birchwood in that direction. None of the others do AFAIK.

Cheers guys.

Long queue at the booking office, and a train due in a few minutes, so I ended up buying the Evening Return to Birchwood. Predictably, it didn't get checked at any point, but such is life ;)
