Hi
I have a 1st Advance single from London to Stockport which I bought for an event. The journey was to be taken in a couple of weeks time, but has now been cancelled. Rather than waste the ticket I am looking to make best use of it.

My question is, if I excess the advance ticket I have to an open single, does it take on the validity of any other open single for the route? In other words, can I begin my journey at Olympia, take the Southern service to Watford where I need to break my journey for a meeting, then continue later that day to Stockport?

I had read somewhere that the original operator restrictions apply, in this case Virgin only, when doing an excess?

From my understanding, you can excess to any other ticket but the original routeing restrictions will still apply.

From the Advance Fares FAQ:
Q09 - Can someone buy an Advance ticket, then excess it to an “Any Permitted” ticket and use it on another operator’s train service?
A: No, they must stick with the operator shown on their original advance ticket (Condition 2c above).
A copy of the Advance Fares FAQ is available as a PDF attachment in this post in our Fares Guide: 1.1.3 Advance Tickets
